Reimagining the world of La traviata with a contemporary lens, Opera Roanoke opens its 51st season with a visually striking and emotionally immediate experience. Through inventive design and direction by Opera Roanoke’s new Producing Director, familiar moments are illuminated in new ways, deepening the opera’s relevance for today’s audiences without losing its essence. The result is a production that honors Verdi’s timeless masterpiece while daring to ask new questions.

Join us for a half-hour introduction to La Traviata before the performance. Richard Masters offers context on Verdi's beloved work, our production, and the music that has resonated with audiences since the opera's 1853 premiere. An informed primer for newcomers and longtime opera lovers alike.
Richard Masters is a soloist, opera coach, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist based in Blacksburg, Virginia, where he serves as associate professor of piano and collaborative piano on the music faculty at Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts.
