Employment Opportunities

Available Position: Marketing and Communications Coordinator

The successful Marketing and Communications Coordinator (MCC) candidate will work closely with the General Director to strengthen Opera Roanoke’s earned income programs and will be expected to meet measurable outcomes in the following areas: audience development and engagement; ticket and subscription sales; promotion; website management and social media reach.  The MCC will work to develop and strengthen a consistent brand and communications strategy.  

Schedule: 20 hours per week, with potential to go full-time after 90 days

Pay: Salary commensurate with experience

Under supervision from the General Director, 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Create all print and digital media ads and promotional materials including but not limited to eblasts, playbills, print ads, and social media ads
  • Create content and post frequently to and grow reach of all social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Update and maintain company website
  • Conduct research to keep Opera Roanoke current in marketing and social media trends
  • Attend and offer support at Opera Roanoke events

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher 
  • Graphic design experience including all Adobe suites
  • 2+ years’ experience in marketing related field
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, with a passion for excellence
  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking
  • Solid knowledge of website analytic tools
  • Digital marketing experience including website, social media, and email
  • Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Helpful, but not required: 

  • Passion for the arts
  • Non-profit arts knowledge
  • Knowledge of opera
  • Rudimentary knowledge of HTML
  • Videography editing skills

Volunteer with Opera Roanoke

The volunteers of Opera Roanoke are an essential part of the company’s success. Volunteer opportunities exist in the following areas:

  • Box Office Assistance ahead of and during performance weekends
  • Special Events and Projects 
  • Mailings
  • Helping to distribute promotional materials
  • Picking up artists from airport or train station
  • Hosting an artist in your home during productions – generally 1-2 weeks
