Opera Roanoke’s Young Artist Program exists to offer educational support and professional performance opportunities to regional college students, embarking on a career in the arts.
Undergraduate Juniors and Seniors (and exceptional Freshman and Sophomores) from across the state are carefully selected by audition and work closely with Opera Roanoke’s professional staff and guest artists for up to two seasons. Young Artists participate in mainstage productions as chorus members and have opportunities to cover leading roles and sing comprimario roles. They also act as Opera Roanoke’s primary outreach in the community, performing for nursing home residents, civic groups, students, and churches throughout the entire season. Each Young Artist will receive a $1,500 scholarship per season and will have the opportunity to receive college credits toward their degree.
**Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, eligible students must be enrolled in a college music program within a 75-mile radius or, if studying virtually, must be residing within 75 miles of Roanoke, Virginia during the school year.
Auditions for the 2020-21 season are being accepted on a rolling basis. To submit materials, please fill out the Google Form below.
