Tosca Overview:

Opera Roanoke opens its 42nd season with a new production of Tosca. Not seen in Roanoke since 2001, Puccini’s melodrama teems with its composer’s signature blend of sweeping passions and compelling theatricality. The show features a cast of Opera Roanoke returning favorites including, Dinyar Vania (La Traviata ’16), Thomas Cannon (Madama Butterfly ’11), and Emily Johnson (Falstaff ’08) in the title role.  This taut musical thriller is a perfect opera for the weekend before Halloween.

La Bohème Overview:

Last seen in Roanoke over a decade ago, Bohème’s true-to-life characters, struggling young artists and professionals, sing music of astonishing beauty in scenes of true pathos. Puccini’s keen dramatic sensibilities balance the heart-breaking tragedy of Rodolfo and Mimi with the wit of their fellow “bohemians.”  The cast and members of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra are led by MET opera conductor and Opera Roanoke Principal Guest Conductor, Steven White.  Returning to the stage are Opera Roanoke favorites, Corey Crider (Sweeney Todd ’15, South Pacific ’16) and Matthew Vickers (Susannah ’17) with Chelsea Bonagura (Magic Flute ’13) singing the role of Mimi.
