Brent Murrill is proud to join Opera Roanoke as the Director of Development. Brent comes to OR from Rochester, NY where he was the Director of Development for Geva Theatre Center, the largest regional theatre in the northeast.
Brent has a successful track record as a fundraising professional. He has previously served in senior leadership roles with the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and the Alabama Association of Foodbanks. He has led successful capital campaigns throughout the southeast and has been recognized for his achievements in the development industry. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals as well as a Rotarian (from the Rochester Chapter). He currently sits on the board of directors for the Eastman School of Music’s Friends of Eastman Opera.
Brent is also musician and composer, as well as an award-winning actor and director. He was the founding Artistic Director of the Mobile Carnival Theatre Company, an organization dedicated to bringing unique productions of Shakespeare’s works to the Gulf Coast. His 2010 production of The Merchant of Venice set inside the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp during WWII has been cited by Dartmouth University in “Exploratory Shakespeare” for its groundbreaking staging and compelling reimagination.
